Coastal Resiliency

The distinctive natural terrain of Galveston makes it particularly susceptible to Relative Sea Level Rise, surpassing other areas along the Texas Coast. The natural floodplains and coastal marshlands play a vital role in naturally mitigating coastal flooding, minimizing storm damage, preventing erosion, enhancing water quality, and offering both commercial and recreational opportunities. Consequently, it becomes the city's duty to safeguard and preserve these limited natural lands.

The economic value derived from these lands should be acknowledged as a dedicated budget line item, and the responsibility for covering the costs should not fall on our tax dollars as these lands undergo development and potential destruction.
